AUTOSTAT specialists have also prepared a forecast of vehicle production in Russia in 2021. 1.43 million vehicles were produced in Russia in 2020, that is 16.6% less than a year ago. This decline was mostly caused by the corona virus pandemic and the economic changes in the country and all over the world. 65 thousand passenger cars (-40.6%) and 12.2 thousand trucks (-16.4%) were exported.

In 2020, automotive enterprises in Russia manufactured 1.25 million passenger cars, which is 17.6% less than a year ago. The share of domestic manufactures has been growing for the recent three years. It is 25.4% or 316.1 thousand cars now. So, the share of foreign brands is 74.6%; that is 930.7 thousand vehicles in terms of numbers.

AVTOVAZ remains the leader of the Russian automotive industry, having decreased its passenger car production by 15.6% to 288.8 thousand vehicles in 2020. It is followed by Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus plant in St. Petersburg with 219 thousand Hyundai and KIA vehicles assembled last year (-10.6%). The models of the enterprise include bestsellers of the Russian market such as the Hyundai Creta crossover, the Hyundai Solaris sedan as well as the KIA Rio sedan and the Rio X-Line cross-hatchback. Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad is on the third place with 155.7 thousand foreign cars assembled (-26.7%).

In 2020, truck enterprises in Russia manufactured 153.3 thousand vehicles, which is 7.7% less than a year ago. Traditional leader here is Gorky Automobile Plant with 50.7 thousand light and medium-duty commercial vehicles (-10%). KAMAZ, which is on the second place, increased its production by 3.7% up to 36.5 thousand trucks in 2020. Ulyanovsk automobile plant, which is the third largest truck manufacturer in Russia, produced 19.7 thousand light commercial vehicles (-19.5%).

In 2020, Russian enterprises manufactured 34.2 thousand buses, which is 18% less than a year ago. So, after the slight growth in 2018, decline in the bus production in our country is continuing.
