«Automotive market in Russia» covers results of 2020. It traditionally contains statistics and analytics on production, sales and vehicle parc in our country.

Last year the sales of commercial vehicles (LCV, trucks, buses) came up to 192.4 thousand vehicles, that is 6.9% less than a year ago. The demand for the new passenger cars in Russia decreased by 8.9% to 1.43 million vehicles. As for the automotive production, 1.43 million vehicles were produced in Russia in 2020, which is 16.6% less than a year ago.

The new global economic crisis, which occurred in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and a slump in world oil prices, resulted in a noticeable downturn in the new vehicle market in Russia. At the same time, we should mention that the recession could have been deeper unless the Government of the Russian Federation had launched a number of automotive industry and market state support measures, as well as a consumer boom provoked by a dynamic increase in vehicle prices and the uncertain situation with the second wave of the pandemic occurred in the second half of the year.

Besides the main segments of the automotive parc in Russia (passenger cars, LCV, trucks and buses) the report also contains data by production years in the brand structure as well. In 2020, automotive parc in Russia increased by 0.9% or 494.8 thousand vehicles up to 53.4 million vehicles. The lion’s share (84.3%) of the parc is generated by passenger cars (45 million vehicles). During the year their number increased by 1.1%. Light commercial vehicles form 7.8% of the total parc or 4.2 million vehicles. Last year, LCV parc increased by 0.6%. Trucks generate 7.1% of the parc or 3.8 million vehicles. The remaining part of the parc (less than 1%) belongs to buses with 411.1 thousand vehicles.
