This is the eighteenth edition of our annual reference book «Automotive market in Russia», covering results of 2019. It contains statistics and analytics on production, sales and vehicle parc in our country.

Last year the sales of commercial vehicles (LCV, trucks, buses) came up to 206.7 thousand vehicles, that is 0.3% less than a year ago. The demand for the new passenger cars in Russia came up to 1.63 million vehicles, that is 2.3% less than a year ago.

1.72 million vehicles were produced in Russia in 2019, which is 2.8% less than a year ago. According to the analysis of key macroeconomic indicators, we can see a considerable slowdown in the Russian economy, which was initially expected in the official forecast of the Russian Government for 2019. The external factors such as low level of world oil prices and the effect of the USA and the EU economic sanctions also had their negative impact on the economy. Moreover, we should take into account that the global economy slowed down in 2019, mostly due to the trade war between the United States and China. The slowdown in the global economy resulted in the decrease in export turnover for the Russian economy. Thus, the slowdown of the Russian economy affected the automotive market negatively and caused a decrease in passenger car sales.

As before, AUTOSTAT specialists tried to offer you the most complete and qualitative information. Besides the main segments of the automotive parc in Russia (passenger cars, LCV, trucks and buses) the report also contains data by production years in the brand ,structure as well. In 2019, automotive parc in Russia increased by 2.1% or 1.1 million vehicles up to 52.9 million vehicles.

The lion’s share (84.2%) of the parc is generated by passenger cars (44.5 million vehicles). During the year their number increased by 2.7%. Light commercial vehicles form , 7.9% of the total parc or 4.2 million vehicles. Last year, LCV parc increased by 1.4%. Trucks generate 7.1% of the parc or 3.8 million vehicles. The remaining part of the parc (less than 1%) belongs to buses, that is 409.9 thousand vehicles in terms of numbers.
