1.87 million vehicles were produced in Russia in 2014, that is 14% less than a year ago.
So the Russian automotive production has been decreasing for two years and the decline rates accelerated considerably. At the same time, 127,500 passenger cars (-7.5%) and 22,000 trucks (-18.5%) were exported.
About 90% of automotive production in Russia are generated by passenger cars, that is 1.66 million vehicles (-12.6%). Foreign manufacturers continue to strengthen their hand in this segment, and today their share is a little more than 75%. At the same time, the share of traditional domestic brands decreased to below a quarter.
AVTOVAZ remained the leader of the Russian automotive industry, having assembled almost 433,000 passenger cars – that is 3.8% less than a year ago. Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus plant in St. Petersburg became the largest foreign vehicle manufacturer for the first time, having broken long-term hegemony of Avtotor, Kaliningrad. Last year HMMR plant assembled 237,000 vehicles, that is 3.3% more than a year ago.
In 2014 truck enterprises in Russia decreased their production by a quarter to 159,100 vehicles, which is 8.5% of the total automotive production in the country. So, the negative dynamics was registered for the first time after four years of growth in truck production. Truck production is still highly consolidated as about 80% of vehicles in Russia are produced by three enterprises.
Traditional leaders here are GAZ (66,800 vehicles; -30.2%), KAMAZ (38,800 vehicles; -9.5%) and UAZ (17,500 vehicles; -26.1%). Buses generate the least share in automotive industry with a little more than 2% of the total automotive production in Russia, i.e. 43,700 vehicles (-19.4%) in terms of numbers. About 60% of this number come from three domestic enterprises: GAZ (9,900 vehicles; -18.5%), UAZ (8,400 vehicles; -25.5%) and PAZ (7,400 vehicles; -24.4%).
