What cars we drive tomorrow?

The Frankfurt exhibition «Automechanika» -2014 answered this question in its Hall of innovations. The exhibitors showed many innovations in alternative drive systems under the slogan "The mobility of tomorrow." It was about innovations in electric vehicles, and about current trends in cars, running on LPG and natural gas. In addition, the exhibition demonstrated many improvements intended for vehicles with alternative drive systems for passenger cars and for trucks and motorcycles. There were the most recent development in the field of electronics, engine components, plus storage technologies, energy systems and recharging.

Company Prins Autogassysteme, the winner of Automechanika Innovation Award and Green Award Directory in 2012, demonstrated its latest solutions in the field of road and natural gas. Together with its partners, the company introduced its direct petrol-injection system: Prins DLM-2.0 and VSI-2.0 DL. Components of the new generation of LPG and CNG systems were presented by two Polish suppliers Stako and Fagumit. Collaborative engineering developments of companies Wemag and Karabag showed at the exhibition the complex Reevolt, which allows the converting of an ordinary vehicle into an electric. The kit consists of an electric engine, control unit, battery and an independent heating system. A method of converting is suitable as for passenger cars, so vans and vintage cars - in accordance with the wishes of the applicant company. To improve the integration of e-vehicles in the urban environment in the future, Wemag and Karabag are actively working with partners to develop energy management and wireless charging system.

German Energy Service and Project Partner (project partner is Gespa) see themselves in the future as a major supplier of systems for electric vehicles and renewable energy sources. Their range includes chargers and batteries charged from solar energy, which are adapted to electric cars. As a successful example of such application it was demonstrated Streetscooter at the exhibition, and a version of a passenger car.

The company RWTH Aachen brought to Frankfurt the project Kerme. This project is a building module that allows the production of motors of different power by using the same parts. For this project, AVA-Kuhler-Haugg-Gruppe from Aachen has developed a cooling system and a prototype of a new heat exchanger.

New drive concepts require new, lightweight constructions from innovative materials and a sample of applications of such structures was demonstrated Streetscooter to the public. It is made from lightweight sandwich panels Stadur.

The developments in the field of lightweight construction vehicles were shown at the exhibition by companies Ostmann, Dullmer FAHRZEUGBAU, ORTEN and Libner. The most spectacular examples in this direction of engineering were cars with the carrying up to 1.2 tonnes - ie more than ever before.
