Leasing of vehicles shows the steady growth

According to the results of 2013 the volume of new leasing deals in Russia was 1.3 trillion rubles and about 25% of them had a freight and passenger vehicles (2012 - 19.7% 2011 - 15.8%). Experts believe that this year it will be the acute problems of leasing companies in the cooperation strengthening with dealers and car manufacturers, who are for them one of the most important sales channels. The main resource for the development of car leasing in our country – is to increase its share in sales of cars, writes AutoMarketolog.ru.

Vehicles segment remains stable direction of the leasing market. Industry experts agree that the market for leasing vehicles sector shows steady moderate growth.

About one-third of car leasing portfolio accounts for transactions with SMEs. According to experts' expectations of “Sberbank Leasing”, this trend will continue in the current year.

Distribution of new deals by regions shows that Moscow has a quarter of the total volume of new business. The concentration of the remaining part of the transactions increased by FD: Volga FD has 14.1%, Central FD - 12.6%, and in the Ural Federal District and St. Petersburg - by 12.1%.

Talking about the outlook for 2014, it is worth noting that the development of the automobile leasing market, besides the general economic situation, will be determined by several factors: the dynamics of the exchange rate against the Russian ruble (some manufacturers have already announced price increases) and the aggravated issue of access to funding in the first quarter 2014.

In such circumstances, the lessors will have to strengthen cooperation with dealers and car manufacturers, who are for them one of the most important sales channels. According to expert forecasts for 2014, according to the pessimistic scenario, the amount of new business car leasing can be reduced by 5-7%, with optimal forecast - an increase of about 4-5% (it is about 335-340 billion rubles).

In a stagnant economy, a modern leasing acquires additional benefits in terms of minimizing of the financial and time costs. The main resource for the development of car leasing in the country – is the increasing of its share in the sales of cars. Today this figure in freight transport segment is 30-40%, in the segment of passenger cars - 5-10%. For the development of this sector in our country there is a large enough capacity, mainly in the segment of passenger cars, and also due to the perspectives of operational leasing, which is quite well developed in Europe in the sector of passenger cars.

It is important to note that the stagnation in the Russian economy may also affect adversely the payment discipline of lessees in 2014, which could lead to an increase in arrears. It is considered that in the retail leasing normal level of delay is at the level of 3-4%. In the worst of times, it can reach 10% or more, which is a negative signal. However, today such preconditions are not observed.

“It is not observed a large number of new contracts in the automotive market, but by the end of 2014, customers can start to update the transport parc, bought in 2010-2011, when it was recorded high sales volume of freight transport (according to the Russian practice, parc renewal occurs approximately every 3 -4 years)”, - says the Director of Corporate Banking Department of JSC “Sberbank Leasing”, Vyacheslav Spirov. “In auto leasing, a key role is played by the so-called “retail transaction” - contracts for 1-3 units of vehicles, concluded by express products. Basically, this part of the market is consolidated enough between 5-7 major players that have invested actively in the development of the branch network for the last five years, as well as in business process automation. Without geographic proximity to the customer in the retail field it is now extremely difficult to achieve significant amounts of new business. At the same time, it is no less important architecture and the degree of automation of business processes because a retail lease presumes first of all the speed and simplicity, and the number of transactions in this segment is estimated by the tens of thousands, distributed throughout the Russian Federation. Fast service of such flow is possible only if decision-making processes and checkout are optimized and simplified, and they are available to the client in various parts of our huge country”.
