Yekaterinburg car market falls slower than Russian one

According to the agency “Auto-Dealer- Yekaterinburg”, it was sold 5,252 new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Yekaterinburg in January of 2014, which is less by 4% than in the first month of last year.

The domestic brand Lada remained the market leader, whose sales, however, decreased by 10% to 643 cars. The most popular foreign car for the second time in the last three months was Nissan, which increased sales by 56% to 529 vehicles. Renault (+65%, 501 units) and Toyota (+52%, 435 units) can also boast by similar dynamics in the top ten.

“Yekaterinburg car market has fallen not as much as the all-Russian one, which decreased by 6% in January”, - the director of “Auto-Dealer- Yekaterinburg”, Mikhail Chaplygin, remarked. The completion of preferential lending program also had the negative impact, which stimulated the sales growth in the last two months of the last year”.

The main loser was Ford in January – the brand sales fell by 65%, and it has left the top ten, by falling to the 17th place. “Sales of Ford, according to our information, fell partly because of the small amount of after-Ney Year holiday promotion actions”, - says Mikhail Chaplygin. – “Taking into account the last year autumn corrections of plant production plans of the American company in the Leningrad region, the brand sales may continue to decline. The appearance of a new dealer of the brand, which is expected in the spring, can help to stabilize the situation. The next two months, the stop of manufacturing of concern in the Leningrad region, which lasted almost all of December and most of January, can affect on the sales of the brand”.

The share of Yekaterinburg in relation to the all-Russian sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in January was 3.4%.
