St. Petersburg GM plant will stop the production for two weeks

St. Petersburg plant “GM Auto” will stop the production for 14 days between February 24th and March 28th, 2014. The press service of the company reported about it “Interfax” agency, without specifying the exact dates of assembly stopping.

“GM responds to a drop in sales in the market, which was 6% in January compared with the same period in 2013”, - noted in the company.

Currently the reduction of model range at the plant is not planned. Further interruption of work is not prescribed yet.

As previously reported, in March of 2014, the company “GM Auto” goes from three-shift to two-shift operation and it increases the speed of the assembly line to optimize production processes.

GM commissioned a plant in St. Petersburg in November of 2008. The company produces a model Chevrolet Cruze and TrailBlazer, and Opel Astra. At the moment the capacity of the plant is designed to produce 98,000 cars a year. By 2015, GM plans to expand the capacity of the St. Petersburg plant to 230,000 vehicles a year, and by 2018, to bring the level of localization of production to 60%.
