There are registered over 3.5 million trucks in Russia

At the beginning of 2013, parc of trucks in Russia was 3.68 million units. At the same time, over 80% of this amount is occupied by vehicles produced by the post-Soviet space, which are slightly more than 3 million units. These data are presented in a new report “Structure and forecast of parc of commercial vehicles in Russia up to 2017”. Let us remark also that the parc has a quite high average age, as evidenced by the fact that the share of vehicles, produced before 1998 (older than 15 years), is about 68% of the total number of trucks in the country, which is equivalent to almost 2.5 million units.

The production of GAZ plant, which has less than a quarter (23.2%) of the whole parc of trucks that is equivalent to 851.9 million units, is the leader in the branding the structure. The second position is occupied by another domestic producer - Kama Automobile Plant, vehicles of which in the country are 758.7 thousand units, or about the fifth of the country. ZIL plant, which was one of the leaders in the automotive industry in the Soviet era, with a share of almost 18% is located in the third place, having a parc of 657.9 thousand units.

“The high average age of trucks in Russia is explained by the high production volume of trucks in the Soviet period, and their further decline since the beginning of the 90s of the last century, and, therefore, the rate of parc renewal slowed sharply”, - said a leading analyst of AUTOSTAT agency, Azat Timerhanov.
