    According to the analytic agency AUTOSTAT, at the beginning of this year there were more than 43 million cars in Russia. At the same time, about 40% of them are not older than 10 years, which, in quantitative terms, slightly exceeds 17 million units.

Foreign cars in Russia are on average 5 years newer than domestic ones

The average age of foreign cars in Russia is 9 years while domestic vehicles age14.9. These data are included in the last issue of “Automotive statistics. Key numbers – 2013”. In general the average passenger car in Russia age 11.9. The total Russian car parc is 36.9 million passenger cars (on 1.01.2013). 

According to AUTOSTAT analysts the newest cars in the Russian parc belong to KIA (3.5 years) and Chevrolet (3.9 years) brands. Cars with average age under 5 years are in Renault (4.1) and Hyundai (4.3) parcs. The average age under 10 years is registered in Ford (7.3), Mitsubishi (8.4) and Nissan (9.1) parcs. A bit older cars belong to Volkswagen (10.4) and Opel (10.7) brands.  

The leader of the foreign car parc – Toyota (12.3 years) is the most close to the domestic leader – LADA (13.6 years) in average car age. Other popular domestic brands are older – UAZ (15.5), GAZ (17.6), ZAZ (23.8), Moskvich (25.4%). 

“The newest cars belong to the brands which have had the largest sales in low-cost segment in recent years, - comments Sergey Udalov, executive director of AUTOSTAT Analytic Agency. – Before they had not sold as many cars as brands traditionally represented in the Russian market”.
