Japan is ready to start the production of components in the Far East


Japan is interested in the construction of component and aggregate enterprises in the Far East and Siberia with their further shipment to Europe. The deputy General Secretary of Japanese Government, Hiroshige Seko, said about it.

There is no large-scale production of auto components in the Far East, remarked the executive director of “AUTOSTAT” agency, Sergey Udalov. If Japanese companies will adjust the production in the Far East, then it will be, first of all, for the needs of the projects of “Sollers” Group and its partners, which are realized in Vladivostok, he thinks.

“Sollers” has three enterprises in the Far East: one enterprise produces under the license of SsangYong and also two joint ventures - with the Japanese Mazda and Mitsui & Co (the partner of Toyota) - for the production of Mazda and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado vehicles, writes the newspaper “Vedomosti”. Now they are importing components but, as “Sollers” noted, “the company is interested in the attraction of component makers in the site”. “We are discussing actively the range of components for a location within the joint venture “Mazda Sollers” and “Sollers Bussan” and we will start soon the negotiations with Japanese suppliers about the production location in the terriotry of our auto cluster”, - said the representative of “Collers but he didn’t reveal potential partners.

“Kamaz-Vostok” produces trucks with superstructures (15 units in 2012) in Khabarovsk region. “KAMAZ-Vostok” buys Korean and Chinese details in addition to Russian parts, said the representative of group. If Japanese manufacturers will offer better terms, then the company will collaborate with them, he is sure. 

Before Japanese were attracted by European part of Russia. For example, “Sanoh Volga” (the owner is Japanese Sanoh Industrial Co Ltd) is going to start the production of brake and fuel systems in the SEZ “Togliatti” by investing in the project RUB 784 million. The senior specialist of “Toyota Tsusho Rus” (the “granddaughter” of Toyota Tsusho, the part of Toyota Group), Victor Otto, said earlier that the company has “several inquiries from Japanese companies, which want to come to Russia”. But the possibility of production opening in the Far East and Siberia was not discussed, said another employee of company. The part of components of the Far East can be shipped to the central part of Russia and Eastern Europe, if the government decides to subsidize their transport by rail, says Mr.Udalov. The representative of Ministry of Industry doesn’t remark if this possibility is being considered.

Suppliers, which have adjusted the production of automotive components and assemblies in the Far East and Siberia, will attract TMMR (Toyota plant in St. Petersburg), if they will be able to offer a “suitable cost, terms and supply conditions of components for our production”, - said a company representative. Today the majority part of the details for the plant comes from Japan by sea, he said: “This option was chosen as the best one in terms of cost, time and punctuality”.
