Yokohama started the production of tyres in plant in Lipetsk

Japanese producer of tyres Yokohama launched the Russian production in Lipetsk and it is ready to produce new covers in the market. As it was known by «РBК daily», the official opening of plant should be on May 30th, so the bad weather won’t spoil the cutting of ribbon.

“The plant works in fact, the production was launched. But we separate two events, such as the production launch and the official ceremony of plant opening. It is planned to be on May 30th”, - confirmed the president of “Yokohama Rus”, Zhunichi Okishima, - Date was chosen with the expectation of good weather during this time”.

Japanese Yokohama announced about the plans of tyres plant construction in Lipetsk special economic zone during the crisis – in December of 2008. The capacity of site is 1,4 million tyres per a year in the first stage (it will be increased to 3-4 million units), the investments volume is about 12 billion Roubles.

The introduction of plant in an exploitation was already at the end of December. At the present time the plant produces winter covers for the next season. Their deliveries in the market will be started in the second half of 2012. Yokohama had informed earlier that the highest production volume in the plant will be winter spike tyres for passenger cars; though, it will be also produced summer covers. It is planned to concentrate on the aftermarket on the first stage.

“This fact that the company starts from winter tyres is justified. It is the most profitable product, so from the point of view of return this strategy is right”, - said the analyst of “VTB Capital”, Vladimir Bespalov. And though Nokian Tyres dominates in this sector (the share of Finish company in sales of winter tyres of average price and premium segment in the Russian market was 27% in 2011), Yokohama has good perspectives in the market (about 13%), supposes the expert.
