Chevrolet is going to keep the leadership among foreign cars in Russia

Company Chevrolet is going to increase sales in Russia more than by 25% to 220 thousand cars in 2012. The director of marketing and sales support of GM DAT CIS, Aleksander Migal, informed about it AUTOSTAT agency and he also remarked that the brand is going to keep the leadership among foreign cars in the Russian market. It should be reminded that this status is being kept by Chevrolet since 2007.

“We started to upgrade the model range by changing the brand to modern technologic massive brand with wide model range of cars that are produced in Russia to keep the leadership in the Russian market”, - said Aleksander Migal in the conference for specialists of marketing and analysts “Car market of Russia. Results and prospects”. – At the present time we launch Cruze hatchback and new Aveo in the market that are presented in the most massive segment of Russia В+/С, so these models will be the basement of our sales”. Besides, the upgraded Captiva, coupe Camaro and new sedan of D-class Malibu will appear at Russian dealers of Chevrolet in 2012 and the new Trail Blazer is expected to be in Russia by the end of year.

“So, Chevrolet launches in the Russian market many new cars and almost all of them, from our point of view, are the very successful offers in the market by correlation of price and consumer characteristics, - said Mr. Migal. – For example, new mini van Orlando, which is being sold in Russia since October of the previous year, has already outstripped sales volumes that were shown by Rezzo during the pre-crisis period. Sales of new Spark almost reached indicators of 2008 in the previous year, besides, the market volume was less”.

As Mr. Migal remarked, today the company bets on model Cruze, sales of which only in sedan body reached 37710 cars in 2011. For comparison, sales of Lacetti in three types of bodies were 42100 cars. By the words of Mr. Migal, the appearance of Cruze–hatchback will strengthen positions of this model in the Russian market. Besides, at the end of 2012 – the beginning of 2013 new Cruze estate car will be on sale. At the present time the issue, where this modification of Cruze will be produced either in GM-Auto plant in St. Petersburg or in Kaliningrad plant “Autotor”, is being discussed in the company.

By the forecast of GM DAT CIS, it will be sold 2,7 million cars in the Russian market in 2012, among them 200 thousand of LCV. As remarked Mr. Migal, foreign cars will continue to increase their share – their sales will be about 2,1 million cars this year.

It should be also added that Russia was on the fourth place among world markets by sales of Chevrolet in the previous year – after USA, Brazil and China. Our country will keep this position so long, as India would realize its potential, supposes Mr. Migal.
