Russian market of trucks will be doubled by 2020

By 2020 sales of trucks in Russia will increase to 230 thousand units per a year, written in the report of Boston Consulting Group (BCG). It is twice more than it was in the previous year (119 thousand vehicles) and it is more 2,8 times than the result of 2010, when it was sold 81 thousand trucks, wrote newspaper “Vedomosti”.

Russian market of trucks suffered most of all from crisis of 2008-2009 among all developing countries and it will recover not earlier than 2013, supposes director of BCG, Vladimir Tuzov. By his forecast, it will be sold 171 thousand of trucks the next year in Russia. Therewith, a share of local producers that have about 75% of market at the present time will decrease gradually, remarked Mr. Tuzov, and also the share of cheap segment will decrease and average price segment will increase by 36% to 44% of total sales volume. So, the best moment for international producers that are going to conquer Russian market during the nearest one-two years, resumed the expert.

Saturation of market will be reached by the sales of 1000 trucks per 1 million people and this indicator will be reached by 2020 in Russia, said the General Manager of “MAN truck and bus production rus”, Tomas Schneiderheinz. MAN is going to launch the plant in leased facilities in St. Petersburg in the first half of year, he reminded, and the plant will be ready to reach the designed capacity of 6000 trucks per a year in 2013. The plant Scania has been working also in St. Petersburg since 2010. Its capacity is 7500 vehicles per a year, said the General Manager of “Scania-Piter”, Johan Balck.

High import duties pushed international concerns for the productions creation in Russia – 25% against 5-10% for components, remarked Mr. Tuzov. But this situation could be changed after the entry in WTO, said the worker of one of foreign concerns. In contrast to passenger cars, duties for which will decrease gradually to 15% during seven years, import duties for trucks will fall down to 15% at once after the entry of Russia and it will fall to 10% in three years. After the duties decreasing the production of foreign vehicles in Russia will become profitable only from the point of view of logistics, confirmed the interlocutor.

Duties decreasing won’t influence significantly on Russian producers, supposes Mr. Tuzov: the majority of them have already developed competitive models, the assembly of which will be started in the nearest years. In autumn KAMAZ together with its shareholder Daimler developed a new tractor KAMAZ-5490, one of modification of which presumes the installation of cabin of joint designing, the second one – its own designing. In 2012 the plant will master an assembly of these trucks, they will be sent to serial production from the next year, said the representative of company. Prices for new vehicles will be higher approximately by 10% than for the exist models but they will be cheaper by 15-20% than the foreign analogous models. GAZ is going to occupy a niche of agricultural machineries, said the representative of GAZ Group, the serial production could be started in 2013. Besides, UralAZ that is a part of group has also developed a new line of military vehicles with account on defence order.
