“Sibur” left the tyre business

“Sibur Holding” left finally the non-core business, by selling “Sibur-Russian tyres” to managers of company.

As newspaper “Vedomosti” wrote, “Sibur – Russian tyres” (SRT) was bought by group of investors on December 29th, among them the General Manager of tyre company, Vadim Gurinov and other managers. Managers bought about 75% of shares of SRT, the rest shares were bought by partners of Mr. Gurinov by the previous businesses, informed the source that is closed to Holding.

“Management of SRT is sure that company could be one of the most successful Russian producers of tyres and they know how to use this potential”, - supposes the deputy General manager of tyre company, Dmitry Sokov. The sum of deal was not revealed by “Sibur”. The source that is close to Holding informed that with account of debt of “Sibur” it is about 1 milliard dollars, without debt account – “several hundreds of millions dollars”.

“Sibur” will receive about 300 million dollars, informed another source that is closed to Holding. Money for a purchase were borrowed also in Gazprombank (the former owner of “Sibur”), said one of the interlocutors.
SRT is the biggest seller of tyres in Russia. According to data of company, its share was 15,3% of Russian market in 2010. Holding tried to leave tyre business several times. In 2008 “Sibur” planned to merge SRT with Amtel-Vredestein, but crisis broke these plans. Amtel-Vredestein became a bankrupt and “Sibur” got its Russian assets for debts. In 2010 the negotiations with subsidiary of “Tatneft”, Nizhnekamskshina, and the joint venture of “Rostechnologii” and Pirelli were started. Finally plants of Amtel were sold by “Sibur” for 222 million Euros to the joint venture and negotiations with “Tatneft” did not give results.

“Sibur” left the assets of tyres and fertilization production and it hopes “to continue the mutually beneficial partnership with new owners by row deliveries”, - said the General Manager of Holding, Dmitry Konov.
