Pirelli will invest over 400 million euro in Russia

Italian tyre holding Pirelli will invest over 400 million euro in Russia, having bought the plants in Voronezh and Kirov, which were a part of Amtel holding. Due to this, the Italian company intends to produce 8.5 million tyres in Russia and to earn 300 million euro next year. By 2014 Pirelli is planning to produce 10.5 million tyres per year, at that mostly with its own brand.

According to RBK daily, this July Rostechnology, Pirelli and Sibur (manages the plants of failed firm Amtel) signed agreement that JV (established on a par) of the Russian state corporation and Italian company will get the Kirov tyre plant (KSHZ). Yesterday Sibut informed that assets of the Voronezh tyre plant (VSHZ) will also be transfered to the JV. Rostechnology and Pirelli will pay to Sibur 222 million euro for both plants.

Yesterday Pirelli announced it plans concerning the Russian plants. In 2012-2014 the Italian company and Rostechnology intend to invest 100 million euro in each of them. The capacity of VSHZ is expected to double up to 4 million tyres per year during three years. At that by 2015 the enterprise will produce tyres only with Pirelli brand. The capacity of the Kirov plant will remain at the same level – 6.5 million tyres, but 60% of tyres will be with Pirelli brand by 2015. In 2014 the company intends to earn 500 million euro in Russia.

The total capacity of all Pirelli enterprises will increase from the current 56 million to 74 million passenger tyres. Thus, according to Vedomosti newspaper, every seventh tyre will be produced in Russia, and JV with Rostechnology will provide more than a half of the production growth. Pirelli believes that local production should provide about 80% of Pirelli sales in Russia and enable the company to strengthen its positions in the Russian market. In 2010 the share of the company in the Russian market in middle-price and premium segments was about 4%, and in whole – less than 1%. But due to its ambitious plans the company could become the market leader and take the second place in tyre production in Russia after Nizhnekamskshina.
