The average age of trucks in Russia is more than 17 years

The average term of trucks exploitation is 17,2 years in Russia. The deputy director of ASM-holding, Aleksandr Kovrigin, said about it in his report in the second automotive conference for analysts and specialists of marketing Market of commercial vehicles in Russia results, players, instruments and forecasts, which was held in Moscow. By his opinion, the old trucks park in Russia leads to big ecological and economic losses, as all expenses are usually covered by their clients.
The number of new vehicles in park started to increase insignificantly only from 2007, - remarked Mr. Kovrigin. The age stopped to change as a whole and it doesnt upgrade because of serious supply of new vehicles, which were produced by domestic plants in Russia and also by the foreign manufacturers that come into our market with caution.
At the same time the level of old trucks discard is 5,8% annually in average, said Mr. Kovrigin. Thereby, there are discarded 11,3% of trucks in average annually in Far East that is even more than the level of foreign developed countries. But it is explained not by the intensive exploitation but by the purchase of huge number of used trucks with high mileage in Japan and in Korea mainly, - explained Mr. Kovrigin the phenomenon of Far East.
As the executive director of AUTOSTAT agency, Sergey Udalov, said in his report about regional features of Russian market and commercial vehicles park, by the results of the previous year the truck park increased by 1,7% and it reached 5 million 414 thousand units after the decreasing in 2009. As Mr. Udalov explained, during the crisis in 2009 the level of trucks discard remained on the ordinary level, as the companies got rid actively of old vehicles not to pay the taxes. Thereby, the truck park almost wasnt filled up by new vehicles. The opposite situation was observed in the previous year: as the Russian economy emerged from crisis, the market of commercial vehicles also began to recover and the rejection of old trucks reached its minimum for the last 6 years. If the scrappage program of commercial vehicles is not launched, then the park will continue to grow due to the new vehicles supply but the average age of exploited vehicles will continue to grow, - remarked Mr. Udalov.
By his words, there are 78,3% of trucks (more than 3,5 tonnes), which are older than 10 years, in Russia at the present time. Therewith, the majority of trucks are vehicles of domestic production. And the park of foreign vehicles is much younger celebrated every second truck of foreign production is only 10 years old (48,4%), in spite of the fact that the used vehicles occupied the considerable share of Russian market.
