Crossover RAV4 became the new bestselling Toyota model in Russia

The crossover RAV4 became the most saleable Toyota model in the Russian market. By the data of Toyota Motor as of December 16th, the sales of this model twice increased (+106%) and they were 15203 units. The Camry model of business-class follows, the sales of which increased by 5% to 15158 cars. So, by the results of 2010, RAV4 could become the new Russian bestselling model of Toyota. It should be recalled that the most saleable Toyota model was Corolla saloon car in our country for many years and Camry took the leadership in the previous year.
As the president of Toyota Motor, Takeshi Isogaya, remarked, Toyota RAV4 and Toyota Camry (the market share in segment D/E is 15%) keep the leadership in their segments by the results of 2010. By his words, the Russian market became the best for Toyota and Lexus sport utility vehicles. So, the share of Toyota in SUV segment was 14,7%, that exceeded the indicator of pre-crisis 2008. By the results of 2010 the share of Lexus in premium SUV segment was 20% that exceeds by 60% the indicator of 2009. Toyota Motor is going to put emphasis on the SUV and D/E segments development in future as they are in the highest demand among the Russian consumers, said Mr. Isogaya.
Totally by the results of 2010, Toyota Motor expects to sale 77 thousand Toyota cars (+12% to the previous year), and also 11 thousand of premium class Lexus cars (+71%). As Mr. Isogaya remarked, the share of sales of Toyota and Lexus cars on credit was 40% of total amount of sales in 2010 in compare with 22% of the previous year. Besides, there were sold about 20% Toyota cars and 12% Lexus cars on credit through the subsidiary of Toyota Bank.
Toyota occupied 4,2% of Russian market in 2010 and it is going to increase the share to 5,7% the next year. Lexus occupied 10% in the premium segment against 7,5% of the previous year. Therewith, the hybrid cars have 16,6% of Lexus sales. There were sold 8390 hybrid Lexus cars since their appearance in the Russian market in 2005.
It should be also added that there were sold through the official dealers 700 thousand Toyota cars since the creation of Toyota Motor in Russia in 2002.
