For 6 months of 2010 Russians have spent 16.4 billion USD for new cars

According to the preliminary estimation of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT" for the first 6 months of 2010 Russians have spent about 16.4 billion USD for new cars. It is by 24% more than for the first half of 2009 (13.3 billion USD).
Specialists remark that essential growth of proceeds in the Russian car market first of all is caused by change of an average price of one car expressed in US dollars. If following the results of the first half of 2009 it was a little over 18 thousand USD then now it has grown up to 22.6 thousand USD (+24.6%). Thus the sales volume of new cars following the results of the first six months will be at level of last year (720-730 thousand units), analysts state. Besides, for the same period about 55 thousand LCV will be realised.
Analysts also remark that Russian brands (first of all, AVTOVAZ) have won back market positions a little. Now 32.4% of the market fall on their share against 26.7% of last year. According to Sergey Tselikov, the director of the agency "AUTOSTAT", it became possible basically due to support of the government at the expense of programs of utilization and preferential auto crediting.
Sergey Tselikov says that in the near future it is worth expecting some stabilisation and subsequent smooth growth of the Russian car market. The Russian economy recovers gradually and potential users have confidence of tomorrow. In its turn it helps to make decision about purchasing of a new car. Besides, the long period of market recession has generated so-called pent-up demand which now pours out in excited consumer activity. As a result there are waiting lists for many brands and models again and dealers can not satisfy it in full.
