Foreign cars of 2008 model"s year are still imported to Russia

In January March of the current year there were imported 100 thsd foreign cars of 2008 models year to Russia. This was established by statistics, got by the analytic agency AUTOSTAT after processing of customs data for the first quarter of 2009. The analysts establish that out of 148, 5 thsd units, imported to our country during three months of the current year, two third (97, 8 thsd units= 65, 9%) account on cars of 2008 models year. The share of cars of 2009 models year constituted nearly 30% (45, 2 thsd units) in the total volume of import. As the director of the agency AUTOSTAT Sergej Tselikov reported, from 80% to 99% of import account on cars of 2008 models year. The share of import of the following Japanese brands is especially high: Nissan (87, 6%), Toyota (89, 1%), Mazda (95, 9%), Suzuki (96, 2%), Mitsubishi (95, 4%) and Subaru (96, 1%), as well as of German brands Volkswagen (9, 3%) and Opel (98, 8%).
Sergej Tselikov said that in connection with rather fast fall of sales at many markets at the end of 2008, not all car manufacturers managed to correct their production plans. That is why now they have to sell the stock of the last year to dealer networks of different countries, including the Russian ones. The car manufacturers undertake measures to stimulate the demand by organizing the discounts and special actions. This is clearly seen at the Russian market.
