Indian Mahindra & Mahindra could become a new owner of LDV

One of two representatives for purchase of the British production of light commercial vehicles LDV (a part of the Group GAZ, under control of Oleg Deripaska) is an Indian automotive concern Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
As the newspaper Vedomosti reports referring on The times, the second candidate is the Asian company, which prefers to remain anonymous. Besides, the former top manager of one of the American car manufacturing corporations was also interested in LDV. These weekends we were informed that the purchase of shares of LDV, planned by its management, will not occur this was not approved by the Group GAZ. In February Great Britain rejected a demand of LDV about credit, despite the declaration of direction that it will be necessary to stop the factory without state support.
Last week LDV handed in an application of a state credit of £4-5 mln to the Ministry of business, trade and of regulatory reform of Great Britain. The company needs money for support of the present production in the nearest 4-5 weeks, as the chairman of committee of directors of the group Eric Eberhardson informed Vedomosti. According to his opinion, LDV intends to attract big investments in other resources. This weekend the British government contacted Mahindra & Mahindra and other Asian investors to know how serious are their intentions to invest into LDV are.
The company is unprofitable since 2002. The government of Great Britain gave it £204 mln (285 mln USD) in course of last years. Since 2006 it is a part of the Group GAZ; the number of employed workers in Birmingham is 850 people.
