Since the beginning of crisis the prices for foreign cars grew almost by 20%

Since the beginning of crisis the basic rubble prices of foreign cars grew already on 19, 3%. The minimal prices grew by 17, 2%, and the maximal prices by 22, 7%. You may find these data in the monthly overview of the automotive market of Russia, prepared by the analytic agency AUTOSTAT at the end of February. To estimate the dynamics of prices there were chosen 55 most popular models of foreign cars. Special discounts for models of 2008 were not taken into consideration. As a start point for estimations there were chosen summer prices and the current price lists date by the second half of February. The analysts note that the range of price changes by makes and models is rather wide from 2 to 50%. The car manufacturers have chosen two main strategies of price formation.
Some of them (mainly Japanese and American brands) converted the basic cost into the currency equivalent and establish a rubble cost every day. Others (the majority of the European brands and a range of Asian ones) index the rubble prices with a certain frequency 1- 2 times per month.
As the deputy director of the agency AUTOSTAT Sergej Udalov reported, two opposite forces are acting the price politics of car manufacturers. Devaluation of rubble and fluctuations of rates of currencies force the foreign manufacturers to change the rubble prices to increase them. At the same time the stock of cars of the last models year and a high concurrence, connected to decrease of demand, inhibit the growth of prices of cars, - as Sergej Udalov commented the situation. He said that every distributor, working in Russia, has its ways of stimulation of demand on cars, including discounts, special prices, presents when buying the car, fixed exchange rate of currency and other actions. Besides, a range of companies gives the possibility for official dealers to use additionally its marketing events, which are not contrary to politics of the company. The total volume of discounts for some models can reach 15 20 %, which is comparable with an average growth of prices since the beginning of crisis.
