The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant announced a new diesel engine for its models. As Ranis Yakupov, leading design engineer at Sollers Engineering, told the 73online portal, first the UAZ Profi commercial family vehicles will receive the new engines, and later they will be installed on the UAZ Patriot SUVs.
“The consumer characteristics and properties of our cars will improve, fuel consumption will decrease and traction will increase,” he noted. It is known that UAZs will be equipped with a 2-liter JAC diesel engine producing 130 hp. (288 Nm), the production of which is localized at the Sollers Alabuga plant. It will be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. The same power unit is installed on the Sollers Argo commercial vehicle, whose production is established at the facilities of UAZ.
Today, the UAZ Profi and Patriot are offered with a non-alternative 2.7-liter ZMZ-Pro engine with a power of 150 hp. (235 Nm), which is combined with a 5-speed manual transmission. As previously reported, a version of the UAZ Patriot with an automatic transmission is planned for 2025. Let us remind that previously the flagship SUV was equipped with a Punch Powerglide 6L50 automatic transmission, but due to sanctions, supplies of these gearboxes to UAZ were stopped.
