The share of sales of diesel passenger cars in Russia has decreased twice

For 4 months of 2023, 9.8 thousand new passenger cars with diesel engines were sold in our country. According to experts of "AUTOSTAT" agency with reference to the data of JSC "PPK" *, this is 60% lower than in the same period of last year. Taking into account the fact that the entire market decreased by 15% during this period, the share of sales of diesel engines in Russia was halved. If at the end of January-April 2022 this figure was 8.5%, now it is 4%.

According to experts, this is due to the mass withdrawal from the Russian market of the world's leading brands, primarily the premium segment, in which the share of "diesels" reached 40%. At the same time, there are few such cars in the line of Chinese brands, while domestic ones do not have them at all. If we consider the results of 4 months of this year, then during this time in our country most of all Hyundai diesel cars were sold - 2851 units. The second place by this indicator was taken by Toyota (1244 units).

The third position is occupied by Great Wall (1179 units), which is slightly behind Kia (1149 units). Mercedes-Benz (734 units) finished the TOP-5. * JSC "PPK" ("Passport Industrial Consulting") is a joint venture of JSC "Electronic Passport" and LLC "AUTOSTAT".
