GAZ may start the production of cars under Volga brand

Gorky Automobile Plant may start the production of cars under Volga brand with the support of a new technology partner, which it intends to decide on in the near future. This was reported to RIA Novosti agency by Deputy Prime Minister - Head of Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russian Federation, Denis Manturov, by adding that the start of production, in his opinion, could take place by the summer of next year. Recall that GAZ has a production complex for the production of cars, purchased in 2006 for the production of Volga Siber business-class sedans.

From 2013 to 2015, the company produced Chevrolet Aveo cars under contract assembly for General Motors, which left the Russian car market in 2015. From 2011 to 2022, Gorky Automobile Plant carried out contract assembly of Volkswagen and Skoda cars for Volkswagen Group Rus, which in July last year announced the closure of its office in Nizhny Novgorod and leaving the production site at GAZ. In turn, GAZ Group stated that it was not planned to liquidate the production, where contract assembly for Volkswagen Group Rus was carried out, and GAZ aims to ensure an alternative loading of these capacities.
