Russian car market returned to the top-five of European leaders in April 2023

Russian automotive market, which returned to growth in April 2023, rose to fifth place in the European championship for the first time since the beginning of the year.

According to the data received by "AUTOSTAT" agency in the national associations of car manufacturers in Europe, Germany became the leader by sale of cars in April, where 202,947 cars were sold (+12.6%). The UK ranked the second among the largest European car markets with 132,990 units (+16.6%). According to the British Society of Automobile Manufacturers and Car Dealers (SMMT), this is the best sales figure for April since 2021, but in compare with the pre-pandemic 2019, it is still 17% lower. France showed the third result - 132,509 sold cars (+21.9%).

Italy is the next, the dealers of which sold 125,805 vehicles (+29.2%). According to Italian Association of Automobile Manufacturers (ANFIA), high growth is due to the effect of the "low base", as well as the action of measures to subsidize the purchase of environmentally friendly cars.

If, when considering the automotive market in Europe, Russia is taken into account, then our country has risen to the fifth place of the European rating. According to the experts of "AUTOSTAT" agency with reference to the data of JSC "PPK" *, the market volume of passenger cars in Russia in April was 75,622 units (an increase of 2.7 times).

We also add that Spanish car market in April grew by 8.2% and reached 74,749 cars. According to the Spanish Association of Car and Truck Manufacturers (ANFAC), the pace of sales growth has slowed markedly in compare with the previous months, when car rental companies were updating their fleets before the influx of tourists during the Easter holidays.
