St. Petersburg Toyota plant was transferred to the management of Almaz-Antey concern

Obukhov Plant, part of Almaz-Antey defense concern, became the management company of the former Toyota plant in St. Petersburg on April 27. The very production site of Japanese manufacturer was recently bought by Shushary-Avto, a subsidiary of FSUE NAMI. According to Vedomosti newspaper, the management company will be engaged in all operational activities to manage the enterprise in order to organize the production of cars. In particular, in 2024, the production of BAZ-S36A11 civilian truck, developed at the Engineering Center of Obukhov Plant, is planned to start at this site. Starting from 2026, it is planned to launch the production of a model range of E-Neva electric vehicles. The all-wheel drive BAZ-S36A11 was first introduced in April 2023.

A car weighing almost 36 tons has a carrying capacity of 22 tons and is powered by YaMZ diesel engine with a power of 422 hp. The truck chassis can be equipped with a drilling, dumping and pumping superstructure, and can also be used as rescue and fire equipment, shift buses. The production volume of BAZ-S36A11 trucks is estimated at 2,000 vehicles per year. In turn, E-Neva electric car was developed on the basis of an unmanned modular electric platform presented by Almaz-Antey concern in August 2021. This is a crossover 4.5 meters long, which will be equipped with two electric engines with a total capacity of 364 kW. Thanks to the high torque (824 Nm), the electric car will be able to accelerate to 60 km/h in 2.7 seconds.

The mileage on a single charge will be 463 km, the maximum speed is 197 km/h. Recall that in September 2022, Toyota Motor announced the closure of plant in St. Petersburg due to the impossibility of the rhythmic supply of necessary components. In March 2023, the enterprise passed into the state ownership of the Russian Federation through the transfer of FSUE NAMI to the jurisdiction of Ministry of Industry and Trade.
