The share of imported cars in the Russian market reached 44% in March

Of almost 70,000 new sold cars in March 2023, 44% were imported from abroad. This was told by the executive director of "AUTOSTAT" agency during the online broadcast "AUTOSTAT Operational. Operational information in the Russian car market. Results of March 2023”.

Experts also noted that today this figure is divided into official imports (32%; in fact, these are supplies from Chinese automakers) and the so-called alternative (12%; this includes parallel imports and imports of cars by individuals). And if we compare it with the level of a year ago, then it has more than doubled - in March 2022, the share of imported cars was 20% of total sales.

The share of sales of new cars of Russian brands in March also increased: if a year ago it was 23%, now it is 37%. But the market share of locally assembled foreign cars during this time decreased exactly 3 times - from 57% to 19%. Recall that most foreign companies curtailed production in Russia due to the geopolitical situation.
