Avtotor started the production of Chinese BAIC cars

Kaliningrad Avtotor plant has begun the production of BAIC brand cars - the X35 crossover and the U5 plus sedan. The novelties will go on sale in the second quarter at a price of 1.7 million rubles, the press service of the enterprise reports. By the end of 2023, it is planned to produce up to 30,000 BAIC vehicles. According to Mr. Patrick Young, CEO of BAIC International, seven BAIC models will be introduced to the Russian market this year, including BAIC X55 crossover (from RUB 3,760,000), mid-size X7, BJ40 Plus mid-size frame SUV and full-size frame SUV BJ60, as well as an electric car. The strategic partnership between Avtotor and BAIC International provides for activities in the field of organizing the production and sale of BAIC cars in the Russian Federation. The parties intend to cooperate in the field of further deepening of production technology. At the moment, production is carried out in the industrial assembly mode based on a welded and painted body with partial localization of first-level components.

Based on the reached agreements, at the first stage, a localization plan for the following components is being developed: batteries, glass, bumpers, washer reservoirs, wheels and tires, seats, exhaust systems, and others. Since 2024, it is planned to establish full-cycle production with welding and painting of bodies, followed by the localization of paintwork materials and stamping.
