Avtotor started the assembly of Chinese trucks

Kaliningrad Avtotor plant has begun test assembly of Chinese trucks. This was reported to the Drom.ru portal by the deputy general director of Avtotor, Alexey Khramtsovsky, who is responsible for the "commercial" direction at the enterprise. According to him, the production of trucks has been established on the same production line where Hyundai HD commercial vehicles were previously assembled. The official start of production of new trucks is scheduled for the second quarter of 2023, and their certification should be completed by this date. Avtotor will produce trucks with gross weight from 3.5 tons to 12 tons, that is, the whole range of small and medium-sized vehicles. By the end of the year, the company plans to assemble 5,000 trucks of three different Chinese brands. Light commercial vehicles will have up to 30% of this volume, the rest will be medium-duty vehicles. Avtotor will manufacture only chassis, while dealers and third parties will be involved in the creation of complete vehicles (with bodies or other superstructures).

According to Aleksey Khramtsovsky, Avtotor has entered into an agreement with three Chinese manufacturers of commercial vehicles, the names of which should be announced in April. At the same time, it is already known that none of these brands have previously cooperated with Avtotor. A separate project at Avtotor is the assembly of electric trucks, also, of course, Chinese. The plan for cargo electric vehicles for this year is "thousands".
