The share of electric vehicles in the market of Uzbekistan was about 2% in 2022

According to the Center of Economic Research and Development (CERD), in 2022, sales of passenger electric vehicles in Uzbekistan increased 3.5 times in compare with 2021 - from 1.7 thousand to 5.9 thousand units. Thus, the share of electric vehicles in total sales of new cars increased to 1.9%. In January 2023, sales of electric vehicles in the republic were 431 units, which are 85% higher than in January 2022 (233 units). Electric vehicle sales were 1.8% of total new car sales in January. The growing demand of electric vehicles is due to the exemption of electric vehicles from customs duties, excise taxes and transport fees.

According to the CERD, further growth of the electric vehicle market in Uzbekistan is predicted due to the measures taken by the government. In particular, support is provided for the organization of domestic production of electric vehicles and spare parts, and compensation will be paid to buyers to cover interest on a loan for the purchase of domestic electric vehicles. In addition, in order to stimulate the production of electric vehicles, in Uzbekistan in 2023-2025 it is planned to buy electric vehicles by state bodies, local khokimiyats and enterprises, in which the state share does not exceed 50%.
