Volkswagen intends to block the export of cars to Russia from China

German automaker Volkswagen has banned Chinese plants from delivering cars to Russia, thereby trying to counteract the import of its models from China. To combat unwanted exports to Russia, Volkswagen has also generated a system of "blacklists" that include Chinese car dealers who are seen as having links with Russia, according to the German publication Handelsblatt. These companies will no longer be able to buy vehicles directly from Chinese joint ventures. However, the influence of Volkswagen is limited, because the partners are Chinese concerns with state participation - FAW and SAIC, writes the Motor.ru portal.

Recall that in March 2022, local production and import of Volkswagen cars into our country were stopped, but the brand did not announce its withdrawal from the Russian market. Meanwhile, in July last year, Volkswagen Group Rus announced the closure of its office in Nizhny Novgorod and the withdrawal from the production site at GAZ. But Volkswagen Group Rus plant in Kaluga today remains idle. According to unofficial data, negotiations are underway to sell it. The plant in Kaluga produced Volkswagen Tiguan crossover, Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Rapid liftbacks. At the facilities of the GAZ Group, contract assembly of Volkswagen Taos, Skoda Kodiaq and Karoq crossovers, as well as Skoda Octavia liftback was carried out.
