Nissan in Russia: 30 years in the market

The agency "AUTOSTAT" informed when the Russian car market will start to grow

During the auto business forum "ForAuto - 2023. Results and forecasts of the car market" held on February 15th in Moscow, the director of "AUTOSTAT" agency Sergey Tselikov cited a number of figures and facts that help to present a complete picture of the Russian car market. He also expressed confidence that from April the Russian car market will begin to show growth, which will continue in general through 2023. The basis for such judgments is that just in April last year, the market of new passenger cars in Russia fell to very low levels (less than 30,000 units), and it overcame the mark of 50,000 units only in November. Thus, in April 2023 (if current trends continue), the car market is able to go positive and continue to show growth until the end of the year.

In his speech, the expert noted that in 2022 the most numerous segment "dipped" most of all – passenger cars (-59%). Slightly "better" was the situation in the segment of light commercial vehicles (LCV), which fell by 48%. But in the cargo segment, the fall at the end of the year is small (-17%), and in January 2023, trucks showed growth at all (+9%). Speaking about the current market structure, Sergey Tselikov recalled that the first half of 2022 was held in conditions when cars of many brands that had stopped deliveries were still actively sold by dealers, but already in the second half of the year, the stocks of these brands ran out.

Because of this, the market structure of January 2023 is very different from last year, but is likely to remain the same throughout the year. So, today LADA and three Chinese brands are at the head of the brand rating, and Korean Kia and Hyundai have been and will obviously remain in the top-10 (there are many fans of these brands in Russia). In terms of the origin of brands, the expert noted that the total share of "Chinese" and domestic LADA increased from 30% to 80% for the year. It is possible that in 2023 the entire TOP-25 most popular brands will consist of cars of LADA, Moskvich and Chinese manufacturers.
