Permission for production of simplified cars in Russia may be extended until 2024

It is planned to return the standard for the mandatory installation of ABS on cars manufactured in Russia from November 2023. Also, as part of the changes in the technical regulations, it is planned to increase the minimum requirements for the environmental class of engines manufactured in Russia to Euro-2. In general, the simplified safety requirements for cars manufactured in Russia are planned to be extended until February 2024, Gazeta.Ru writes, citing the third package of amendments to the technical regulation “On the safety of vehicles”.

Recall that earlier the Russian government extended the simplified rules for the production of cars in the Russian Federation until June 1st, 2023. The document allows automakers not to install a number of systems on new cars - in particular, ABS and ESP - and the ERA-GLONASS emergency response system in case of accidents may not have automatic operation functions. It is also allowed to produce cars with engines of different environmental classes, including the lowest Euro-0. Simplified requirements for cars produced in the country have been in force in Russia since the spring of 2022.

According to the deputy head of the analytic department of "AUTOSTAT" agency Viktor Pushkarev, in order to ensure technological sovereignty, it is clearly necessary to localize the production of all the most important auto components in the territory of the Russian Federation. And it means that if it is planned to launch a full-fledged sovereign production of a particular Chinese car model, then it is necessary to create a full-fledged pool of enterprises supplying its auto components.
