Iranian cars are delayed on their way to Russia

Iranian cars cannot be delivered to Russia yet because they have not been certified, Ministry of Industry and Trade informed RIA Novosti. Plans to start sales in our country in 2023 were previously announced by Iran Khodro, which plans to enter the Russian market with Tara sedan, and SAIPA intends to bring Quik hatchback, Saina and Shahin sedans.

As Russian Ambassador to Tehran Alexei Dedov said earlier, Iran Khodro plans to supply 2,000 cars to Russia by the end of the first quarter of 2023, and SAIPA, which is also negotiating with Russian distributors, intends to sell more than 20,000 cars in our country per year. At the same time, he noted that at the moment the issues related to the certification of Iranian models and the formation of a dealer network have not been resolved, which may shift the start date of deliveries. According to Alexei Dedov, Russia and Iran are negotiating the prospects for joint production of cars and components for them.

Andrey Olkhovsky, General Director of Avtodom Group of Companies, says that the prospects for Iranian cars are not obvious yet - it is necessary to import and test demand for them. But at the same time, they will become an obvious competitor for the domestic AVTOVAZ both in terms of price and characteristics. And if there are political agreements, then it will be not easy for AVTOVAZ in the market with all the problems with components.
