The weighted average price of a new car grew by 20% in 2022

At the end of 2022, the weighted average price* of a new passenger car in Russia was 2,380,000 rubles. Director of "AUTOSTAT" agency, Sergey Tselikov announced it during the auto business forum "ForAuto - 2023. Results and forecasts of the car market". Thus, for the previous year, the weighted average price of a new car has increased by 20%. Recall that in 2021 this figure was almost 2 million rubles. If we compare it with 2014, then since then the weighted average price has increased 2.4 times - then it was at the level of 1 million rubles. It is also worth noting that a comparable sharp increase in the weighted average price of a new car was observed in 2015 and 2021 (+20% and +18% respectively), and in 2016-2020 it was always less than 10%.

At the same time, in 2022, its weighted average price was growing even despite a significant market drop (-59%). The fact is that in the spring there was a significant increase in the cost of cars, which ultimately affected the final result of the weighted average price. * Calculated on the basis of average prices and sales volumes recommended by the distributor for each model, taking into account modifications (engine size, drive, transmission, body).
