According to the data of AUTOSTAT agency, in January 2023, Russians purchased 361.1 thousand used cars. This is 7% higher than in the same month of the previous year. The agency's experts also noted that the secondary market showed growth for the first time in the last 16 months. Recall that before this, positive dynamics was recorded only in September 2021. Half of all purchased used cars belonged to five brands. Leadership is still held by the domestic LADA (79.4 thousand units), the share of which at the beginning of the year was 22%. Among used foreign cars, Japanese Toyota traditionally excels (42.9 thousand units) with a share of about 12%. Then, with almost equal results, Korean brands Hyundai and Kia follow (20.7 thousand and 20.4 thousand units, respectively). The TOP-5 is finished by Japanese Nissan (18.3 thousand units).
In addition to the listed brands, Volkswagen, Chevrolet, Renault, Ford, Honda and BMW also overcame the mark of 10 thousand sold used cars in January. Despite the market growth, some brands still have a negative trend. Thus, among the leaders of the secondary market in January, it is shown by LADA (-1% in compare with January 2022), Renault (-1%) and Chevrolet (-5%). Of those brands that turned out to be in positive territory, Nissan (+1%) showed the least growth. For Ford it was 8%, while for Toyota, Kia, Hyundai and Volkswagen it was in the range of 10-15%. Even greater growth is observed at Honda and BMW (+23% and +36%, respectively).
