Import of new electric vehicles in Russia grew by 24%

At the end of 2022, 3,479 new electric cars were imported into our country. According to the experts of "AUTOSTAT" agency with reference to the data of JSC "PPK" *, this is 24% higher than in 2021. More than half (53%) of all imports of new electric vehicles came from Tesla and Volkswagen products (1127 and 719 units, respectively). Thus, if every third imported electric car belongs to American brand, then every fifth one belongs to German brand.

By the way, it was the import of Volkswagen electric cars that grew the most in 2022 - more than 15 times. For comparison: Tesla added only 10%. In addition, experts noted a multiple increase in the volume of imports of new electric vehicles from China. But for those manufacturers that previously officially imported electric cars to our country (Audi, Jaguar, Porsche), the opposite picture is observed. As for the model structure of imports of new electric vehicles, the first four positions are occupied by Tesla and Volkswagen products.

Thus, the leader is Tesla Model Y (516 units), followed by Volkswagen ID.4 (484 units), Tesla Model 3 (468 units) and Volkswagen ID.6 (201 units). Porsche Taycan finishes the TOP-5 with a result of 163 imported units. In general, for the previous year, about 60 different brands of new electric cars were imported into Russia.
