05 julymore infoHow the passenger car preferences of Russians changed - this became the subject of another research by AUTOSTAT analytic agency and Auto Mail.ru portal. A joint ‘Dream Car’ online survey, where more than 9,500 respondents took part, was carried out in June 2019.
January 2023 has become a new significant milestone in the history of Chinese brands in the Russian automotive market. An analysis of January statistics of the country's two largest markets - Moscow and St. Petersburg - showed that new Chinese cars have already managed to occupy a 60% share "on their territories". Experts of analytical agency "AUTOSTAT", based on the data of PPK* on the market of new cars, calculated that the share of "Chinese" cars in January reached 59.6% in the capital, in St. Petersburg it was 60.7%. And this is not at all due to the permitted parallel imports and acquaintance with new products of the Chinese automotive industry, which, of course, appeared in the market (Zeekr, Neta, Voyah, Lixiang, Blaval, Hongqi, etc.), but the main merit here still lies in strengthening the positions of the top three leading brands (Geely, Haval, Chery).
For example, in Moscow, Geely's share in the new car market has already exceeded 18%, Haval - 15%, Chery - almost 13%. That is, in total, these three brands in the capital have almost every second purchased car (46.4%). As for St. Petersburg, Chery occupies almost a quarter of the market (24.7%), Haval - about 13%, Geely - 9%. In total, this is 46.5%. Such arithmetic is even more impressive if we compare the obtained results with the previous year. So, in January 2022, the Chinese in the Moscow market of new cars occupied only 8.6%, in St. Petersburg - 10.1%.
Recall that in January 2023, 6.2 thousand new cars were sold in Moscow, of which 3.7 thousand were Chinese ones. In St. Petersburg, 2.7 thousand new cars were sold in the first month of the new year, of which 1.6 thousand were Chinese.
