Russian automotive market, which continued to fall in January 2023, remained the sixth one in the European championship. According to the data received by agency "AUTOSTAT" in the national associations of automakers in Europe, Germany became the leader in the sale of cars last month, where 179,247 cars were sold (-2.6%).
Great Britain showed the second result - 131,994 sold cars (+14.7%). As noted by the British Society of Automobile Manufacturers and Car Dealers (SMMT), this is the best start to the year since pre-coronavirus January 2020, while positive dynamics are recorded for the sixth month in a row. Italy ranked third among the largest European car markets with 128,301 cars (+19%).
According to the Italian Association of Automobile Manufacturers (ANFIA), double-digit growth is recorded for the fourth month in a row and is due, in particular, to the action of measures to subsidize the purchase of environmentally friendly cars. France is the next, its dealers sold 111,940 vehicles (+8.8%). Spain finishes the top-five, the car market of which grew by 51.4% and reached 64,147 cars last month.
According to the Spanish Association of Car and Truck Manufacturers (ANFAC), this strong growth rate is due to the low base of last year, when the semiconductor crisis in the country recorded the second worst car sales result in more than 20 years. If, when considering the automotive market in Europe, Russia is taken into account, then our country took the sixth place in the European rating. According to the experts of "AUTOSTAT" agency with reference to the data of JSC "PPK"*, the volume of passenger car market in Russia in January was 45,231 units (-47.4%).
