Used electric car market fell by 3% in 2022

Unlike the market of new electric vehicles, which grew by 33% in 2022 and reached record level, experts of AUTOSTAT analytical agency, on the contrary, recorded a fall in the segment of used electric cars. So, according to the agency, Russians purchased 8,868 used electric cars last year, which is 3% lower than in 2021.

More than a half of used electric car market (56%) belonged to Nissan brand products. In quantitative terms, this amounted to 4944 units. And about one in five (25%) used electric vehicles purchased were Tesla (1,923). Far behind the leaders, German BMW (305 units) managed to enter the TOP-3 brands. Hyundai, Porsche and Audi also crossed the threshold of 200 units. Nissan Leaf (4923 units) remained the most popular model in the secondary market of electric cars in 2022. The second place in the model rating is occupied by Tesla Model 3, which sold 973 units. This is followed by another "Tesla" - Model S (469 units).

The top five is finished by BMW i3 and Porsche Taycan (274 and 248 units respectively). The experts decided to see in which regions more used electric vehicles were purchased in 2022. Recall that in 2021, Irkutsk region was the leader in a similar rating. However, in 2022, the alignment changed, and Moscow came out on top (1346 units), which accounted for more than 15% of this market. Krasnodar Territory (697 units) moved up to the second place, while Irkutsk region (611 units) was only the third one. The TOP-5 regions also included St. Petersburg (561 units) and Moscow Region (560 units). In other subjects of the Russian Federation, the number of sold used electric cars was less than 500 units.
