New passenger car market fell by 47% in January 2023

According to the results of January of this year, 45.2 thousand new cars were purchased in Russia, experts of the AUTOSTAT agency reported with reference to the data of JSC "PPK"*. And this figure is 47% lower than in January 2022. About 80% of the purchased cars were Russian and Chinese brands (18.4 thousand and 17.2 thousand units, respectively). And if the market volume of domestic brands grew only by 5%, then the "Chinese" - 2.1 times.

Other manufacturers - from Europe, USA, Japan, South Korea - are "in the red" (the fall in them exceeds 70%). As a result, the share of Russian brands doubled in January, while it quadrupled at Chinese brands. In the brand rating, the top five have remained unchanged for the last months - LADA, Chery, Haval, Geely and Kia. At the same time, it is worth noting that a newcomer to the market, Chinese OMODA, entered the TOP-10, which took the eighth position in January.

The model rating is again headed by LADA Granta – cars of this family at the beginning of the year were sold with a circulation of almost 12,000 units. And this is more than a quarter of the total. Behind it, LADA Niva Travel and LADA Niva Legend SUVs are already habitually located, as well as Chinese crossovers Chery Tiggo 7 PRO, Geely Coolray and Haval Jolion.
