05 julymore infoFor 10 months of 2021, more than 90 thousand new Chinese cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in Russia. This is 109% (more than double) higher than the previous year's result. The experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT" came to this conclusion, having analyzed the data of the AEB.
Experts from Otkritie Avto (auto business unit of Otkritie Bank) and AUTOSTAT agency conducted a joint study of the Russian used car market and determined its financial capacity* in December 2022. According to the results of the study, at the beginning of winter, residents of the Russian Federation spent 444.9 billion rubles for used cars, which is 8% higher than in November (413.8 billion rubles).
At the same time, 468.7 thousand used cars were purchased in December, which is 2% higher than a month earlier (460.1 thousand units). If we consider the results of 2022, then during this period, Russians became the owners of 4 million 864.7 thousand used cars, spending 4.3 trillion rubles for them. The share of younger cars in the financial capacity of the market continues to grow. So, in December, Russians again spent the most money for used cars under the age of 5 years - 192.5 billion rubles, which is 43.3% of the total. In December, European and Japanese brands became aftermarket leaders both in terms of volume and costs. Thus, during the month, 134.7 thousand used Japanese cars were purchased for 149.7 billion rubles (33.7% of total costs), and 113.2 thousand European cars for 174.3 billion rubles (39.2 %).
The third place in the structure of financial capacity of the secondary market in December was occupied by Korean brands. They accounted for 13.1%, which is equivalent to 58.4 billion rubles. In monetary terms, they are ahead of Russian brands (32.1 billion rubles), but in absolute terms they are inferior to them (60.3 thousand against 112.5 thousand units). American brands of used cars are the next in the ranking - 23.7 billion rubles were spent for 37.3 thousand of these cars. The least popular in the "secondary" market is still "Chinese" cars (in December there were bought 8.7 thousand units), so less money is spent for them (6.4 billion rubles). It is also worth noting that, in compare with November, costs increased for all brands, but European and Chinese cars were the most affected (+10%).
* Financial capacity is the amount of money that Russians spent for the purchase of used cars during the reporting period. It is calculated on the basis of the average price of offers for used passenger cars and their purchase volume for the reporting month.
