    Experts of the AUTOSTAT analytical agency found out that the share of foreign-made cars reached 15% of the total market of new passenger cars in Russia, and then decided to consider how this figure could vary depending on a particular brand.

Otkritie Avto (auto business block of Otkritie Bank) and AUTOSTAT analytical agency conducted a joint survey of the new car market in Russia and determined its financial capacity* in December of 2022. According to the results of the survey, in the first winter month, Russians purchased 56.7 thousand new cars, by spending 134.7 billion rubles for this. At the same time, in general, for the previous year, 626.3 thousand new cars were purchased in our country for a total amount of almost 1.5 trillion rubles. At the end of last year, it was spent about 6 times less for premium cars than for mass-produced ones.

In December, the inhabitants of our country bought 2.1 thousand new cars of premium segment, spending 19.6 billion rubles for this. Thus, the share of premium cars in the cost structure was 15%. But the share of cars in the mass segment turned out to be almost 6 times higher - 85%. The volume of their sales for the month was 54.6 thousand units, and the purchase costs - 115.1 billion rubles. Russians spend the most money for cars from China. In the first month of winter, 19.9 thousand new cars of Chinese brands were bought in our country. In total, they spent 58.7 billion rubles - more than for any other car. Spending for brands from China were 44% of the Russian market financial capacity. At the same time, in quantitative terms, the "Chinese" are second only to domestic cars, sales of which in December were 21 thousand units. But it was spent 19.8 billion rubles for them, which is 15% of all money.

According to this indicator, Russian brands even yielded to European ones (21.1 billion rubles; share - 16%), but slightly ahead of the "Koreans" (19.5 billion rubles; 14%). At the same time, in terms of purchase volumes, European and Korean cars do not even reach 10,000 units. The rest 10%, both in terms of market volume and financial capacity, is accounted for Japanese and American car brands. Moreover, the results of the latter are many times less.
