Used motorcycle market fell by 5% in 2022

The fall in the market of used motorcycles in 2022 turned out to be less than in the market of new such vehicles, experts of AUTOSTAT agency reported. Thus, the secondary market of motorcycles decreased by only 5%, and new motorcycles - by 16% (details there). For the previous year, 89.4 thousand used motorcycles were purchased in the Russian Federation. It is worth noting that at the beginning of the year, a positive trend was observed in the secondary market (February and March showed a steady increase - by 25% and 42%, respectively), in April and May there was a slight drop (by 6 - 7%), and in June the market grew slightly (+1%).

Further, from July to September, the fall of the market in this segment did not exceed 9%. But since October, when the active season of motorcycle use has passed, it has increased and its figure has become double-digit, by reaching -26% in December. In the secondary market of motorcycles, the first four positions in the brand ranking according to the results of 2022 are confidently occupied by the “Japanese” - Honda (19.5 thousand used motorcycles of this brand were bought during the year), Yamaha (13.2 thousand units), Suzuki (8.7 thousand units) and Kawasaki (7.4 thousand units). German BMW finishes the TOP-5 (7.2 thousand units). The results of each of the remaining brands are less than 5 thousand units.

As for territorial sympathies, the purchase of used motorcycles was most active in the Central Federal District last year. It accounted for about 40% of the whole secondary motorcycle market, which in quantitative terms amounted to 35 thousand units. In three more federal districts - Volga, North-Western and Southern - the market volume exceeded 10 thousand units. In others, it was below this value.
