Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant intends to develop a modernized Patriot family during 2023. By May 2024, "Patriot" and "Pickup" with 6-speed manual transmission and a turbo diesel from the Chinese automaker JAC should go on sale, the Drom.ru portal writes, citing its sources. We are talking about JAC HFC4D engine with power of 130 or 139 hp (depending on the degree of forcing). Currently, Patriot and Pickup are equipped only with ZMZ Pro gasoline engines (2.7 l, 149 hp), a dual-fuel version of this engine (gasoline + propane-butane) is also available for the Profi family. It is aggregated with a 5-speed manual gearbox (Dymos or BAIC) and part-time all-wheel drive. As AUTOSTAT previously reported, in 2024 Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant also plans to resume the production of its SUVs with automatic transmission. Recall that in early December, UAZ dealers stopped the orders accepting for the Patriot and Pickup models with automatic transmission, as, according to unofficial data, the supply of PunchPowerglide 6L50 gearboxes to UAZ was prohibited due to sanctions.
As previously reported by the chairman of the board of directors of Sollers, Adil Shirinov, Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant is considering the possibility of transferring its cars to a new platform created through a technology partnership. According to him, cars on the new platform can be produced under UAZ or Sollers brand, which includes Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. Moreover, Sollers does not exclude the expansion of UAZ product line, however, the appearance of its own new car is out of the question due to the high costs of development and organization of production, which the company estimates at least $500 million.
Therefore, new UAZ model may also appear as a result of technological partnership with a manufacturer of light commercial vehicles, with which Sollers has a joint project. At the same time, UAZ does not intend to abandon the current models - neither from Patriot, nor from "Buchanka", which will be produced as long as there is demand for it.
