The development of the electric vehicle market in the Russian Federation will depend on domestic projects

The Russian market volume of new electric vehicles in 2022 was 2,998 units, which is 33% higher than a year before. The upward trend is likely to continue in 2023. Experts of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT" spoke about it on January 12th, by summing up the preliminary results of the previous year. The brand structure in this segment has changed a lot for the previous year - new brands have appeared, and some have demonstrated multiple growth in the market volumes (Volkswagen - 40 times, Mazda - 5 times, BYD - 5 times, Mercedes-Benz - 4 times). It will continue to change actively with parallel imports allowed and the launch of the Russian assembly.

And in this regard, experts believe that at first a lot will depend on the success of two domestic projects - Evolute and Moskvich. On the other hand, while the price of electric vehicles is quite high. Therefore, a very important point here is the quality of the batteries and the price of the final product. Everyone understands that if the state continues to allocate huge subsidies for the purchase of new domestically produced electric vehicles (as it is in many countries of the world), their market will also grow. Nevertheless, the result of 2022 for this segment looks quite positive: the market share of new electric vehicles grew from 0.1% to 0.5% for the year.

Note: the data of JSC “PPK” ("Passport Industrial Consulting"), which is a joint venture of JSC “Electronic Passport” and LLC “AUTOSTAT”, are given.
