The share of individuals in the structure of new car imports grew 14 times in 2022

The executive director of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT" Sergei Udalov said that individuals began to import new cars to Russia more often. If in 2021 the share of individuals accounted for only 2% of new cars imported from abroad, then in 2022 this figure increased to 28%. This change was due to the so-called "parallel imports".

At the same time, it should be noted that the total volume of imported new passenger cars fell by 19% - from 238.4 thousand units (in 2021) to 192.1 thousand units (in 2022). In this case, “new vehicles” are imported cars that are under 3 years old. Import of used cars, on the contrary, increased by 91% - from 136.3 thousand to 259.7 thousand units. Experts believe that used cars are a good alternative in the current conditions. Remarkably, used cars are brought into the country, as a rule, by individuals. In 2022, their share was 98% (in 2021 - 90%). The share of legal entities now accounts for only 2% (previously it was 10%).
