In 2018, sales of new cars in Russia grew by 12.8% in compare with 2017. Both segments - the mass and premium ones - also showed the growth (+ 13.9% and + 7.4%, respectively). Sales of cars of mass brands reached 1 572 246 units in 2018, the share of which is 91.2% of the total sales volume.

In 2022, almost 800 thousand units of vehicles were purchased in Russia

At the end of last year, the market volume of new vehicles in our country was 798.6 thousand units. Such data* were given by the experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT" within the framework of the online broadcast "AUTOSTAT Operativka. Operational information in the Russian car market. Results of 2022". If we compare this result with what it was in 2021, then it turns out to be 55% lower. Recall that a year ago, the automotive market in the Russian Federation was approximately 1.8 million units. At the same time, the figure for 2022 is the lowest for the last 16 years. The fall affected all segments of the market.

It happened most strongly among passenger cars, which accounted for about 80% of the total volume. So, in 2022, Russians bought 626.3 thousand new cars, which is 59% lower than in 2021. The LCV market fell by almost a half (-48%). At the same time, for the first time in a long time, there were purchased less light commercial vehicles than trucks in our country (75.2 thousand and 84.2 thousand units, respectively). And the drop rate of trucks (-16%) was three times lower than for LCVs. The situation is better than others in the segment of new buses, which decreased by only 7%. However, its volume is still small (12.9 thousand units) and is at the level of the last five years.
