Russian market of new passenger cars fell by 59% in 2022


For the whole previous year, Russians bought 626.3 thousand new cars, which is 59% lower than in 2021. This is reported by the experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT" with reference to the data of JSC "PPK" *. Almost 30% of this amount belonged to domestic brands (29.4%), the lion's share of which was made up of LADA cars. In 2022, they sold 174.7 thousand units, which is 27.9% of the total market. Next, according to preferences among Russians, Korean brands follow, the total share of which turned out to be equal to 19.5%. At the same time, the Korean Kia (65.7 thousand units) and Hyundai (54 thousand units) are ranked after the Lada. Quite a bit behind the "Koreans" there were Chinese manufacturers, the total share of which was 19.2%. On the other hand, they are ahead of the "Europeans", who took 18.5% of our market.

However, among the brands, French Renault (40.8 thousand units) is in fourth one, and the Chinese Chery (39.3 thousand units) is the fifth one. The share of "Japanese" at the end of 2022 was 12.4%, and the remaining 1% of the market belongs to American brands. Experts will discuss the results of the previous year in more detail on January 12th, during the traditional broadcast of "AUTOSTAT Operativka".
